Small Break from being a Working Mom

When A was 3 months old, I went back to work. Hands down the hardest thing I have ever done. I still tear up thinking about leaving my little guy. He was in wonderful hands, but they just weren't my hands, a baby needs his mama.

I enjoy working. I enjoy my job. I do sometimes wish for more time with my energetic, sweet, creative, smart two year old, but I also have a great job that is fulfilling and meaningful. I am often in a strange state of wanting both worlds - not something that is possible.

Hiking on our Vacation last week! My shirt kind of matches the rocks....
Right now, however, the government has given me a mini-break from work. Since I am furloughed, I don't currently have work to go to. I get some unexpected time to spend with my son, and I am really loving it. I imagine it's going to be hard to give it up.

Breakfasts are more fun when there is no clock to watch, there are so many options of things to do. I get to enjoy his smile, reading books, playing with trucks, lots of hugs. I also get some "me" time, assuming he naps! I get to check off things from my to-do list that has been staring at me forever (oil change anyone?), exercise more, organize the house, home cooked meals...I'm not sure this burst of energy will last, but for now, I'm being very productive.

At some point, I'll get to go back to work. For now, I'm enjoying my small break from being a working mom :)

I love him!

  2. I'm sorry you're part of the furloughed US citizens! But I'm also happy to hear you get to spend some quality time with your kid. Great photos! (Good luck with the oil change. :))

  3. It is hard after those first few months... Glad you get to spend some quality time (even though it was not planned). I am a gov't employee as well but not furloughed.
    Have fun while you can!

  4. Sorry you can't work, but at least you have an amazing child to keep your mind off of it! Time flies by so definitely nice to be enjoying it with someone who means so much!

  5. So sorry you're out of work, but love the fact that you get bonus time with little man! And I love the scenery you can enjoy! We love getting out in nature but our hiking areas sure look different than your backyard! :-)
