This is Family
My grandmother has always been the center of our family - she made sure that we have always been connected...that we stayed close across the miles, that we knew we were part of a bigger picture. We spent carefree summers playing with our cousins, danced at each other's weddings, smiled at each other's babies, cried at our grandfather's funeral. We are a family.
I know I can count on my Aunts and Uncles if I ever need them. I've driven cross country - they've housed me, my friends, my dog. They've opened their homes, their hearts. I am lucky to have such a wonderful family.
I need to make plans to go visit my grandma soon - she is an amazing woman and I haven't seen her in over a year. Too long. I am so grateful that she taught me so much about gamily. and continues to do so. Ninety three years, five kids (and five spouses), eleven grandkids (and six spouses), five (almost six) great-grandkids (hope I got that all right!). I am so lucky to have such an amazing family.
I was inspired by "This is Paradise."
<3 Beautiful photographs and a beautiful sentiment. Enjoy your visit.
ReplyDeleteYes! You really should make time to visit her. Memories and spending time with her will last you a lifetime and bring her smiles. I remember visiting my grandma and how much fun she had playing with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, and great pics!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of your Grandma, especially with the babies! How sweet!
ReplyDeleteI adore that picture - they are all so cute :)
DeleteThis is really sweet and I hope you get to visit your grandmother very soon. I lost my grandma earlier this year and really wish I had gotten one more visit with her before she left us.
ReplyDeleteI need to do the same. Thank you for the important reminder. I'm the only grandchild out of state. Family is the most important thing...
ReplyDeleteMost of my family lives in the midwest, so I definitely feel far away in CA!
DeleteFamily is so important - having lost all the members of my family, I wish that I could have a moment or two with them again.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I feel the same way about my grandma. She is the only of my grandparents who are still here, and definitely keeps the family together! Being from Hawaii, I'm actually interested to hear more about that book, "This is Paradise".
ReplyDeleteMy Grandma is 93 too! What a beautiful tribute to a close family!
ReplyDeleteLove your pic's, great post! I love my granddaughters and will also always be there for them they know that also. I want to be sure they have the relationship I never had with my grandmother :/
ReplyDeletemy grandmother lived to 96, and I'm so glad that I visited her the year before she passed away. It was a wonderful visit, and has given me memories to hold on to of her. Enjoy your time with her, and lets hope you have many more opportunities!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma passed away 5 years ago and I still miss her. Sounds like your grandma is as wonderful as mine was.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother passed away over 10 years ago and I still miss her. I feel really lucky, though, that I was her oldest grandchild. Some of my cousins don't remember her, which makes me so sad.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a large extended family around and I miss our weekly gatherings.
ReplyDeleteYour post makes me think of my grandma. She's my only grandparent still living. I try to call her on a weekly basis. She's an amazing woman and I'm lucky to be her granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great having a supportive family. I feel blessed to be so close to my mom's side of the family. I wish the same were true for my Dad's side.
ReplyDeleteAloha e Meghan,
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the photographs of your grandmother and the family. The best is all those smiling babies on Grandma's lap! Certainly when I was writing THIS IS PARADISE I kept my own family photos nearby and let images of my grandmother move and inspire me.
I think grandma's laps are made for a row of little kids!
I love these pics! Family is SOOOOO important!
