Rory Miller is a teenager who gets attached by a serial killer - she escapes and is now under witness protection. From this point on, the story makes little sense and is pretty superficial, not to mention violent. I will say, however, that the ending is truly great. She does an incredible job of building up a story to an ending you'd never expect. Clearly the author has writing talent!
But the rest of the book is a tough slog to get through. In all honesty I wouldn't recommend it. There are plenty of great young adult stories with amazing characters, great stories and far less violent or confusing writing.
I am apparently optimist, so decided to give the second book a try...I enjoyed it more than the first. It still has a great ending that comes out of left field and still has boring characters. It is much less violent than the first, which I appreciated, but I just couldn't get into the story.
In this, the second book of the series, Rory Miller now has a fresh start in a new town, where she has started hanging out with a local clique and of course the magnetic "leader" Tristan. Soon, of course, things become much more complicated, and the truth isn't what it seems.
The story has great potential, and I did like the main character more than in the first book. But the teen characters are cliched (and a bit whiny), the book is very slow and the story doesn't make the most sense - but then again, I was a little bored, so maybe I didn't try hard enough to understand.
