In the spirit of making more sustainable I decided to use TerraPass to offset the carbon we use in our daily life. While the ultimate goal is to actually reduce your carbon footprint by doing simple things like using less gasoline (bike?), eating less meat, changing your thermostat or taking fewer flights!
I also realize, however, that in this day and age, carbon emission is part of life. I chose to go on an amazing vacation recently. Of course, that required flights to Canada and a rental car (less efficient than our regular car), with many miles of driving in beautiful national parks! I wouldn't change my decision to go, but I can go through a group like TerraPass to "offset" this use. Current offset projects are based in North America and are one of four types: farm power, and landfill gas capture, abandoned coal mine methane capture, and clean energy.
Just head on over and use their calculator to figure out how much carbon you use. They have calculators for families, individuals, businesses - even for weddings, dorms and conferences.
