I actually think it's adorable.
So far, he isn't using it too much to say "no" to us, but rather it is an expression of frustration. When the stacking cups aren't stacking up in just the order he wants, he furrows his little brow, purses his lips and say "no" to the cups. When he can't quite get the buckle on the changing table to snap in he gives that same little concerned look and says "no" as he hands it to me to fix.
For now, I can fix his frustrations. For now, it isn't being directed directly at me and his adorable facial expressions make me smile. I know, soon (probably as soon as I write this), he will be saying "no" when I ask him to do things. But for now, saying no to inatimate objects is pretty cute.
We are also concurrently working on yes, just for fun :)

He's so cute...but gonna be trouble :) |
I remember when our daughter started saying "no" much like yours. She is just over 2 years old now and the word has become a time out granting word. HAHA! She actually says it to us now. Sometimes being funny, but many times telling us no to a request from us. Even when they begin to say no to you, there are times where i just can't help but laugh, especially if it's accompanied by a pouty lip....YA JUST CAN'T HELP IT! I think that's our own odd way of getting through these years. Keep up the positive attitude and you will do just fine!!!

oh yes...welcome to no..lasts like 18 more years...
ReplyDeleteSon says, "uh-uh" instead of "no". We reserve "no" for the moments of danger, and just say "uh-uh" when he's just not supposed to be doing something. It sounds good in theory, that I didn't want to teach my kids "no". Looking back, I feel ridiculous, 'cause it's such a mandatory word! At least my 5 year old says "No, thank you" instead of just "no!". Always. Even if it's out of frustration at stacking cups. :)

ReplyDeleteI LOVE that comment! Why is it we learn the negative before the positive? It is funny that I picked your blog to read because my blog post that I uploaded is about things that get better as you age. I probably should have included that we say "no" less. But then again maybe we don't :)
Your little guy is such a cutie.
Very cute, enjoy it while it lasts! Stopping by from Write on Edge Weekend Linkup ;)
