...or mine :)
I had two whole hours all to myself the other day - so I slipped away to a bookstore. The sad thing is that there are so few real bookstores anymore, it's such a special treat to actually be in a bookstore. But that is beside the point.
I found a book called "One Year to an Organized Life" - and I had to buy it. I need some easy to follow, step by step advice on organization. I think it's one of those things that is overwhelming when you think of everything that needs to be done all at once - but can be more easily digestible in small bits.
So I started reading January - yes I am already a month behind :) - and thought, the only real way to keep myself accountable - is to put it out to the world. So I hope you'll help me!!
Week 1: Why am I like this?
The first step is to look at where your time goes, where it should go, what your goals are, and reflecting on where your habits came from.
So that's what I'll be trying to to be figuring out this week. I'll check in next week with my progress. Any organizing tips would be much appreciated :)
I love buying organizing books, even though I never seem to use them either. If you go with the idea that life is messy, you feel good that you're living a really fantastic life!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that advice - can you tell my husband that please :)
DeleteI love true bookstores. Not the big chain ones but the local ones where the shop owners have already read all the books. Thanks for sharing. Visiting from SITS.
ReplyDeleteI adore small business bookstores! I wish there were some nearby! So sad that there aren't so many anymore.
DeleteI'm the last one to give home organizing advice to anyone (especially since I started blogging). Ugh! The other day, however, I had an unexpected day off work due to another snow storm and I decided to use part of the day to clean out a closet that had needed to be cleaned out for a very long time. Wow! The treasures I found! Things I had long forgotten I found! Now I'm thinking that getting things better organized just might be fun. Stopping by via SITS today and much enjoyed your post! :D
ReplyDeleteIf only it would storm in CA! My husband took my son out last weekend for a few hours and I got so much done! It's so hard to find the time :)
DeleteI soooo need help with organizing! I need to check out the book. I love your honesty of being a month behind :)
ReplyDeleteI need you guys to keep me honest :) LOL!
DeleteLove this idea, Will be following your progress; heading to check out that book. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeletePlease do follow, I need the motivation - love the book so far!
DeleteI collect organizing books and they are beginning to rival my cookbook collection. The thing is that my cookbooks get opened continuously and the organizing ones, well they tend to look pretty on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty and the referral of a book that I might actually use.
Cheers,
Marie

I totally agree - well loved cookbooks don't rival the dusty organizational books! But this one seemed nice as it broke tasks down in small steps. Hopefully I'll stick to it :)
DeleteI need help organizing my organizing books! I look forward to taking inspiration from you on this. Stopped by from SITS Comment Love!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I have so much book organizing to do - not even funny!
DeleteI agree that it's so sad there aren't that many bookstores anymore! Stopping by from SITS Comment Love...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! It makes me so sad not to be able to hang out in bookstores!
DeleteI am working on getting better organized too! It is sometimes a struggle for me to find huge chunks of time, so I am doing 15 minutes a day. Setting the bar low, hoping I will stick to it.
ReplyDeleteI am visiting from SITS. Please visit me back if you have not already. I was in Wednesday's group, but my site link was unfortunately messed up in the spreadsheet. Eek! Hope you are having a great week!
Will stop by!!15 minutes a day sounds totally doable!
DeleteI miss bookstores! I would just get lost in them for hours.
ReplyDeleteI know! While I don't have hours anymore, I still try to go when I can!
DeleteThere will always be something especially wonderful about a paper book. I too could really use some assistance in the organizational department!
ReplyDeleteI need help organizing my everything. And the funny thing is I love being organized. I love organizy type things. I could spend days lost in the container store, fantasizing about what I could put in this container, or that one. But seriously, have you ever heard of the Flylady? I think it may be flylady.com. She is a big help, and sends as many or as few emails a day. She has daily, weekly and monthly goals and challenges. She advocates doing in in small 15 minute increments, and you can jump in anytime. You may want to check her out for inspiration and guidance. She starts with a small talk, like shining your sink.
ReplyDeleteI loooove bookstores and miss them being on every corner. Now I spend more time in Libraries, trying to soak up the feeling of books. I'm going to check this book out as I'm obsessed with getting organised. Thanks for sharing! Your newest follower, Mez xx SITS
ReplyDeleteI've heard about that book! I'm curious to hear what you think of it when you're done. I've actually given workshops on time management for mom entrepreneurs, and it sounds like this book starts you off on the right foot: you have to know how you're spending your time in order to figure out how to make the best of it moving forward. Stopping by via SITS! Good luck with your organizational quest! :)
ReplyDeleteI miss bookstores and actual books, boy I could use some help in the organizing department also.
