My advice?
1. Get out of the house as soon as you can! Even if it's just a quick walk around the block. Even if it's a few minutes, start soon and keep at it. We took A for a walk on the beach when he was a week old - and he loves the fresh air (me too!) to this day!
2. Exercise with your baby (or toddler). This may not be the most efficient workout you've ever had :) You can use them as extra weight and teach them to love exercise as much as you do!
3. Invest in a good jogging stroller! Now I have to admit I haven't run all that often with the stroller, but we can use it in so many places. It's been an awesome hiking stroller and perfect for the beach, hikes, runs....
4. Find an online group or in-person support system! I can't say this enough. This blog has been awesome for making connections with other moms. I recently have found other fitness bloggers - running moms, healthy eating moms, moms that are struggling with finding time to be fit. I love it!!!
What are your goals? Any advice for new moms?
Great advice! I wish someone would have shared these when I was a new mom :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like it took me at least a year to feel back to "normal" after having babies. My strength was zapped, especially with my first.
ReplyDeleteSupportive husbands are the best! Mine supports all of my races and training, I couldn't do it without him! Thanks for the tips!

Excellent wisdom to share to new moms!
ReplyDeleteOur youngest will be 6 years old in 9 days, and I can't believe how the time just flew by. Raising 3 daughters - my dream! - I did not realise how much energy it will take to get to where we are now (our version of functioning and living happily!). My mom made it seem so easy (we were four children)!
Although I am very thankful for what I have achieved (with husband's unwavering support) in running for the past 2 years, I still wished I begun much earlier.
My advice for new moms: make time for fitness, as early as you can because you won't regret taking on the adventure of taking care of yourself! Taking care of yourself makes you stronger to take care of your family. :)
I work out with my toddler all the time and when he sees me doing jumping jacks or burpees, he does them with me and even the yoga poses. He thinks its fun time...so I let him. Seldom does he really bother me.

While I will never be a new mom, I really did like this advice…
ReplyDeleteEspecially the get out of the house for at least a few minutes piece.
I think that one can apply to everyone of us man or woman (mom, dad or neither).
We all face different stress in our lives and going for a short walk can really relax the mind!
The pictures of you exercising with him made me smile : )
