What's in a name?

Naming your child is a very pressure filled situation. It's forever...it shapes their live in untold ways. Your name has an indelible effect on who you are. Talk about needing to make a good decision.

I knew I wanted a strong name. I knew I wanted one that had a spelling that wasn't easily confused (like mine). I also read this intriguing article about how students with names earlier in the alphabet do better in school (so, of course, I picked a name starting with A...). I also read how people with names that people know makes life much easier. I did a lot of research :)

At the end of the day, however, I chose a name I loved. I loved the way it sounds, I love the full name and the nickname. I love that it has history and that it just fits my little guy. I love that it is his alone in my family (though his middle name is a family name) and that he has a name to grow into. Maybe I love it because I love my son, and I can't separate that now...but that probably means that I made a good decision...right?

  1. Interesting that names at the begining of the alphabet do better at school, I wonder why that is??
