Happy Monday - Happy Family

Cousins make me happy!

Though we may live very far away, I am so grateful that A has two cousins in his life. I have eleven and love every one of them. Some of my best summer vacation memories are of blissfully enjoying life with one cousin or another. Over the past year, we've been lucky enough to see A's cousins three times - which is quite a feat considering they live across the country.

It makes me happy that A will grow up knowing his cousins! His younger cousin definitely made an impression on him - he is always saying her name :) They are just a few months apart. I hope his older cousin can give him some pointers when he gets older! Though I wish we lived closer, I am happy that we're able to see them as often as we do. I am also happy to have my brother-in-law and sister-in-law in my life! I married into a great family!

Not sure if he'll have more cousins one day - regardless - he is so lucky to have the cousin's that he has! You guys are awesome :)

Family

Sorry I've been so quiet the last few days :)

I've been enjoying time with my family. I hope you have too! If not, I hope you get to soon.

I can't believe how quickly time passes, so I am trying to enjoy every minute!

It's Monday

My son is 22 months old. How on earth did that happen?

He is amazing. I'm not sure I've said that enough recently...

He is giggling, smiling, babbling non-stop. He tries so hard to communicate!

He LOVES his daddy. He tries to copy everything he does. He loves dance parties with dad, cuddling up in the corner of the couch so he can be near him, imitating his silly faces...maybe hockey is next?

He still wants lots of hugs, kisses, songs, stories and dancing with mom. He loves piggyback rides and even just cuddling up to read books. He has learned to say "cheese" when I take one of my millions of photos!

He loves sharing, with me, dad, Moose, his stuffed animals. He'd rather give a cheerio to Pooh than eat one himself sometimes :) He even wants to take his friends to the store with him!

October Anniversary

In our household, there seem to be two times of year that important dates happen to fall. One of these is October....which really just means an even bigger lead up to the holiday season! One of my favorite days is my wedding anniversary.

I loved having a fall wedding and love the possibilities of celebrating in autumn. The colors are vivid, the air gets crisp (in some parts of the world!), there are apples to be picked, pies to be made, pumpkins to carve. Though we got married in the desert, I tried to incorporate some fall colors anyway.

Looks like I got caught!

I'll always remember it as being such a gift to spend a weekend with my friends and family. How often do you get almost everyone you love together in the same place at the same time to celebrate love?

Underwood Family Farm ~ Best Birthday Party!

There is this great little farm just 5 minutes from our house. I used to get boxes of vegetables weekly from there - but now just can't keep up! But in addition to having great produce they have lots of great things for kids to do. They have seasonal festivals, a petting zoo, pony rides, trains....it's a little kids paradise.

Another great thing that we discovered this past week was birthday parties. We were invited to a birthday party for a little girl down the street (Happy Birthday!) and it was awesome :) There was a horse drawn carriage ride around the farm, pizza, cake, pinata and then some time to enjoy the activities that usually cost money - for free! A is in quite the horse phase - so he was absolutely enthralled by the horses as well as the pony rides. He kept yelling "neigh" at the top of his lungs. It was very cute. He loves the trains, tractors, pony rides, tractor rides and even hung out sitting on the back of the fire engine with the fire chief for awhile. All in all - quite the amazing day.

I highly recommend Underwood Family Farms for birthday parties - as well as just some great fun :)

Loving the train - and making friends!

Enjoying his own cow train car - scared Mommy though!

Loved the ponies - not so much the misters!

Welcoming a New Season

Usually, January is the time for new beginnings - resolutions, gym memberships, connecting with old friends. Spring is time we clean out our closets, garages, attics and start anew. For some reason, this year, October feels like a new start for me. As I look forward to all things fall, enjoying the last few months of A's first year, and getting ready for some cooler temperatures - I just feel ready to start out on the right foot.

The perpetual things on my list? Eating Healthier, Exercising, Living a Greener Life and Making Every Day Count.

So how am I planning on tackling this minor tasks?

1. Eating Healthier - we are trying not only to plan our shopping trips better (to save money), but I am hoping to plan our meals ahead of time. At least 3 days a week I want us to eat together as a family, with a healthy meal. A eats much healthier meals than my husband and I most days. We really need to eat more greens and less cookies! We have been getting better over the last few months, so I want to contiune on that positive track.

2. Exercising - I signed up for yoga on Wednesday nights at the local parks and recreation district. I haven't done yoga since I was pregnant and am excited to try again. I am starting a less crazy running schedule. I was trying to run 4-5 times a week and that was just causing more stress. So I will consider myself successful if I can run 3x a week and walk at lunch. I am very thankful for co-workers who make me leave my office! I also signed up for a 5k in my town next month, that should alleviate any excuses!

3. Living a Greener Life - I'm planning on making October my "restart" month interms of living green. I really believe in living as sustainable life as possible, but I haven't really been "putting my money where my mouth is," so to speak. I am planning on making a concentrated effort to address this on my blog as well - to keep me accountable. Look for "Going Green" spotlights on Thursdays as well throughout the month. Anyone interested in a "green" blog hop?

4. Making Every Day Count - This is the easiset and hardest. It really is a mind-set...prioritizing health, happiness and family. There are so many things in this world to worry about and to stress about and few really, truly matter as much as connecting to your friends and family, enjoying the time you have with them and loving one another. Our calendar is already getting full of time shared with others - pumpkin trains, family visits, date nights, swim time, birthdays, anniversaries and enjoying all the great things that fall brings.

I hope you'll join me on my October journey! I am really excited about this fall...anyone else haev some big plans? or advice on how to keep the momentum going?

Happy Fall!

Camarillo Chili Cook-off

We made a last minute decision to go to the Camarillo Chili Cook-off recently a couple of weeks ago, I'm finally getting around to looking through my photos ;) It was actually a lot of fun! Though, we were deciding between Malibu and Camarillo - and apparently we missed lots of movie stars at the Malibu Chili cook-off. We've lived near LA for three years now and still haven't seen anyone famous! But I think we made the right choice! The chili was good, the music was good and the we had a good time!

A family dinner - join us!

In continuation of the house tour...this week I invite you over to the the dining room. It's always been important to me to make sure we eat together as a family (as much as possible). I think making your dining room - or wherever you eat - inviting, cozy, comfortable and functional is all important.

When we were buying the house, the windows of this room pretty much sold me :). But the lamp was awful! One of my favorites home improvements was the new lamp and wall sconces. I think we've done a nice job making it our own...I hope one day you can come over and join us for dinner!

My favorite pics of my dining room? Ones where friends and family are enjoying a meal!

A's first Thanksgiving!
Meals need good food and lots of love!
